Over the years, I’ve built many meaningful relationships with my patients, and I always look forward to seeing my patients during office visits.
I have lived in Flagstaff my whole life, and I now live here with my husband Chad, and son Hunter. Living in this area is great, especially because when I’m not at the practice, I enjoy hunting, camping, archery, and shooting. However, one of my favorite things is being a mom to my wonderful son!

Hello! My name is Marilyn, and I am Dr. Shanahan’s full-time registered dental hygienist. I began my dental career as an assistant, and I loved the dental field so much that I was inspired to continue my education and become a hygienist. My favorite aspect of dental hygiene is helping our patients pursue a lifetime of good oral health. Every day, I look forward to being at this practice and working with our patients. Just being around them makes me want to better myself both professionally and personally.
I am pleased to serve on the Board of Dental Examiners. This is an appointed position by the Governor and it is an honor to represent the community of Northern Arizona. I also am a Dental Hygiene Examiner for Western Regional Examination Board and CDCA. I serve the entire Eastern & Western regions of the United States testing new hygienists for licensing. I help to assure that they are competent & safe to practice.
I moved to Flagstaff from Phoenix in 1988 to attend NAU and have been here ever since. This is a great place to spend time with my family. I stay involved with my younger boys in travel soccer, and new adventures of high school for Luke and driving for Bryce.
A cherished part of my career is getting to know our patients and their families. It is incredibly rewarding to help make a difference in their overall health and know I’m playing a positive role in their lives. One of my favorite parts of working with Dr. Shanahan is how we influence our patients as a team with care and education to better their oral health while providing the best dental hygiene advantages we can. I have been in dentistry since 2010 and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in dental hygiene from Northern Arizona University.
Originally from Georgia, I moved to Flagstaff in 2004 and plan on never leaving. My husband Walker and I are in with love with the Flagstaff community and all the outdoor activities “our little mountain town” has to offer. I’m grateful for the inspiration from the late Dr. Sid Davis to become a dental hygienist; it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I love caring for so many people and having my daily obligations dedicated to making our patients’ oral health the best it can be.

Helping others is my best quality, and through this practice, I get to continue doing what I love.

Having spent nearly 30 years in dentistry, I recognize there is a strong connection between oral health, systemic health, and quality of life. Each patient has specific needs and desired outcomes and I believe they should be able to obtain them.
