A beautiful smile is an asset that many look forward to. This includes achieving the pearly white smile we are becoming accustomed to seeing lately. Achieving this white smile has become much easier, faster and safer than many believe.

One of the most common questions we hear would be: “Is teeth whitening safe?” The answer to this is quite simply, YES! Clinical studies have shown no long term adverse side effects to teeth whitening.

Another common question we hear is: “Why is causing my teeth to yellow or discolor?” The answer to this can vary from person to person. The most common reasons teeth discolor will include consuming high quantities of deep-colored foods such as tea, coffee, wine, and berries. Teeth can also become discolored as we age, take certain medications, if we smoke as well as from trauma to the tooth itself.

You may be asking yourself: “How does teeth whitening work?” Two of the most common methods to teeth whitening are using peroxide-containing bleaching agents such as in-office whitening gels, trays and over the counter whitening strips and through the use of whitening toothpastes such as Colgate’s Optic White toothpaste. Bleaching agents break down and remove both deep and surface stain, where many toothpastes use both physical, such as baking soda and chemical, such as hydrogen peroxide action to remove and reduce surface stain.
